Majority of Russians consider it necessary to develop domestic tourism - VCIOM
UFA, 2 December 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Ksenia Kalinina/. According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (VCIOM) in a crisis with Egypt Russians prefer to spend vacations in the country.
The survey was conducted after the announcement of the ban on flights to Egypt. For example, 67% of Russians believe that the authorities should focus on the development of domestic tourism, not the safety of overseas trips. On the contrary, 24% of respondents believe that it is better to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of Russian citizens staying abroad.
Previous surveys have shown that this summer, 59% of Russians took vacations, of them only 8% spent them outside Russia, 14% - at the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, 6% - in the Crimea, 14% - in another city or village of Russia.
"Expectations that the ban on flights to Egypt will lead to an increase in domestic tourism are not obvious. At least, earlier surveys have shown that the jump in currency rates did not make a noticeable effect on domestic tourism due to the underdevelopment of the existing infrastructure. We will see how the social behavior will change in the current situation", said the director for public relations VCIOM Alexei Firsov.
