Bashkiria beekeepers can monitor status of hives via Wi-Fi

UFA, 2 December 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Dariya Svyatokhina/. Young scientists from Bashkiria designed a remote control system of bee colonies. Special sensors mounted in the hive help to improve the conditions of bees keeping and the quality of honey products. In the autumn of 2015 the project found support at the regional level having won the prize in the contest "UMNIK". Elvir Mukhametzyanov, the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, the senior teacher of Ufa State Petroleum Technological University branch in the city of Salavat is the author of the idea.
The noise, humidity, temperature and weight sensors are placed in the hive. The information is immediately received by Wi-Fi module (located directly under the hive), and then is transferred on the phone or tablet computer of the beekeeper. Special software is installed on the tablet; the screen will display the relevant data. And the beekeeper will know what is happening in the hive without opening it.
At the second stage it is planned to set a microcomputer in the apiary, which will gather information from all the hives. The third stage is collection of data from microcomputers to the remote data base across Bashkiria. So, there is a system of "Smart Hive", "Smart Apiary", "Single Database".
In the spring of 2016, scientists from Bashkortostan plan to develop 20 sets of "Smart Hive" system. In 2017 they will test the system "Smart Apiary". The authors want to fully complete all stages of the project creating a single database in 2018. Details are available on i-gazeta.
