Bashkir athletes won eight medals at IPC Athletics World Championships in Qatar

UFA, 3 November 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. The world championships among athletes with disability, which ended in Doha (Qatar), became successful for representatives of Bashkortostan. The competition was attended by about 1,300 athletes from 100 countries. Our republic as part of the Russian team was presented by six people: Alexey Labzin, Elena Pautova, Andrey Koptev, Anna Sorokina, Alina Samigullina and Andrey Zhirnov, the coach - Peter Builov.
According to the results of competitions Bashkir athletes won eight medals. The press service of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of RB reported that Andrey Zhirnov was the third in the 800m race, Anna Sorokina - the second in the javelin with a personal best result - 42.66 m. Elena Pautova won a silver medal at the 1500 m race with a result of 4.41,50.
Andrey Koptev and Alexey Labzin in the Russian relay team became the world champions. They overcame the distance in 42.11 seconds and set a new world record. The previous world record belonged to Spain and was held since 1994 - 42.46.
Elena Pautova, Alina Samigullina and Anna Sorokina won the "silver" also in the relay race. The Russian women finished with a time of 50.88.
215 sets of medals were awarded at the world championships. The Russian team ranked second in the team event, winning 24 gold, 21 silver and 24 bronze medals. China took the first team place, the Americans were the third.
