Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the opening of the All-Russian Congress of Orientalists

On October 8, in Ufa, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the opening of 10th All-Russian Congress of Orientalists "Russia and the Orient: Interaction of Nations and Peoples", which was held at the Bashkir State Academic Drama Theatre named after Mazhit Gafuri.

“The choice of the capital of our republic as a venue for such a major scientific forum is far from accidental. Ufa is one of the recognized centres of Russian Orientalism, of history, language, art, religion, philosophy and ethnography studies of the Eurasian continent”, Rustem Khamitov said.

In his speech, the Head of the Republic spoke about achievements of the leading orientalists of the republic, including Rizaitdin Fakhretdinov, Ramzi Murat, Ahmed Zaki Validi.

According to Rustem Khamitov, the "eastern vector" is of particular importance in the foreign policy of Russia in recent years. Bashkortostan takes an active part in these processes, having become a platform of dialogue for leaders of 15 East and West countries during the SCO and BRICS Summits.

The All-Russian Congress of Orientalists is held by the Orientalists Association of Russia once in two years. Ufa hosts the Congress for the second time: in 2006 in Bashkortostan the 5th All-Russian Congress of Orientalists "East in Historical Destiny of the Peoples of Russia" was held here.

The 10th All-Russian Congress of Orientalists "Russia and the Orient: Interaction of Nations and Peoples" is carried out in Ufa at the Institute of History, Language and Literature, Ufa Science Centre RAS. It is attended by over three hundred scientists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Ufa, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Vladivostok, Krasnodar, Yakutsk, Kyzyl, Abakan, Lipetsk, Cheboksary and other Russian cities, as well as the orientalists from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Ukraine. The congress will last until October 10, 2015.
