Bashkir oil workers rescued baby seal near the northern fields

UFA, 16 July 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elvira Latypova/. In the Nenets Autonomous District, between Trebs and Titov fields, Bashkir oil workers found a pup of Greenland seal and conducted a rescue operation. This is reported by Rossiyskaya Gazeta with reference to the corporate edition of Bashneft.

“The seal was found in the twilight between the fields, it was crawling quite rapidly along the bed of the river to the opposite side of the sea,” the newspaper quoted the acting head of the district engineering services of Bashneft Alexey Nikitin.

Experts believe that the pup could not go so far from the sea independently. Most likely, the poachers or tourists took him, and then threw it out fearing checks.

It took about two hours to transport the animal. Oilers fed the pup with herring and released it into the Barents Sea. The entire rescue operation took a total of about six hours. 25 people were engaged in it.
