In Ufa SCO member states will approve a program of cooperation against terrorism and extremism
UFA, 11 June 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Arthur Basyrov/. It is expected to approve a Cooperation Program of the SCO member states on combating terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2016-2018. This was said at a meeting with the foreign ministers of the organization by the head of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry Sergey Lavrov. His words are cited by the official web portal of the summit.
"Today the task of information security provision, prevention of modern technologies use for spreading radical and extremist ideas, particularly among young people comes to the fore. This topic is reflected in the draft Cooperation Program of the SCO member states on combating terrorism, separatism and extremism for 2016-2018, which is expected to be approved at the SCO Summit in Ufa. Practical cooperation in this area would benefit from greater involvement of non-governmental organizations, the media and the expert community. We will also work together to promote in the United Nations our well-known SCO initiative on adopting universal rules in the field of international information security", Sergey Lavrov said.
He further added that currently in the SCO it was managed to counteract effectively the threats of terrorism, drug trafficking and various forms of transnational organized crime. However, according to Sergey Lavrov, the problem requires more coordinated activity: "First of all, we should strive for full realization of the potential inherent in the Regulation on political and diplomatic measures and mechanisms of SCO response to situations threatening peace, security and stability in the region".
