"Operation Smile" charity campaign will be held in Ufa for the second time

UFA, 13 May 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. In Ufa, for the second time a charitable campaign "Operation" Smile" will take place from August 30 to September 5. It will complete a jubilee year of the organization. Over 20 years in the territory of our country, Russian and foreign specialists rendered free medical care to more than three thousand children with cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities.

In Bashkortostan, on the first day of the campaign on August 30, doctors will consult and select children to carry out operations at the Republican Children's Hospital. In the following days multiple surgical teams will operate young patients from all over the republic and neighbouring regions.

"In Bashkortostan, on average 120 surgeries are carried out annually on children with a similar pathology. The relevance of this topic does not decrease, and today more than two thousand children with maxillofacial defects are registered with surgeons, of which about 80 are in need of operations", - the First Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee for Science, Education and Culture Liliya Gumerova said.

The Chief physician of Republican Children's Hospital Rustem Akhmetshin said: "For us it is very important to make a large number of operations in a short period. For example, last year for a week in our hospital 58 children were operated on, 120 received consultations. This year, special attention will be given to young patients requiring re-operation".

In addition to providing free medical care, experts will share their experience and the latest achievements in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery with local doctors. It is planned to hold a scientific-practical conference, operations broadcast, and master classes. The campaign will be finished with a concert.

For many years the "Operation" Smile" charity programs in Russia are sponsored by the Banking Group "Zenit".
