Flag with official logo of Ufa Summits was raised on top of Elbrus

UFA, 8 May 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Gulfiya Akulova/. Mountaineers established a flag with the official symbols of the upcoming Summits in Ufa of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the BRICS group on the top of Elbrus.

The ascent took place in the framework of the annual international festival of extreme winter sports "Red Fox Elbrus Race-2015" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Representatives of tourist companies of Ufa - Sergey Semenov and the Chairman of the Mountaineering Committee of the Russian Federation of Mountaineering Alexander Yakovenko took part in the flag setting at the highest point in Russia and Europe.

"In 1943, the Red Army took off a flag of Nazi Germany from Elbrus, throwing the Germans from the Caucasus. This mountain has always been a centre of attention, and the fact that we hoisted the Ufa flag at this altitude exactly in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory and the most important events for Bashkortostan was very symbolic", Sergey Semenov said.

Recall that in September last year in Bashkortostan a pointer to the capitals of the SCO and BRICS was established at the intersection of the 55th parallel and the 55th meridian - in a field near Nizhnesaitovo village of Kushnarenko region.
