Day of Spring and Labour is celebrated in Bashkortostan

UFA, 1 May 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Arina Rakhimkulova/. May 1 is a Labour Day. This is one of the recognized international holidays, its history dates back to 1886. Then Chicago police harshly suppressed riots that broke out during a demonstration of workers demanded better conditions and higher wages. In memory of these tragic events, in July 1889 the Paris II International Congress decided on the annual celebration of May 1 as a day of international proletarian solidarity.

The most important requirement was then introducing the eight-hour working day. Over time, May Day has become a common spring holiday. In the Soviet Union for many years, it remained one of the main public holidays. In 1992, the International Day of Solidarity of Workers in Russia was renamed to the Day of Spring and Labour.

Today in the republic in all cities and regions May Day marches, sporting events and festivals will be held. In Ufa in the square in front of Russian Drama Theatre a May Day rally of Trade Unions of Bashkortostan will take place under the All-Russian slogan "Rise in prices - doubling wages!".

Participants of the rally will be given flags. The Youth Council of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic will hold the campaign "Youth for the Union!". As a symbol of unity and solidarity of workers balloons will be launched into the sky.

A solemn meeting will be closed with a festive concert, where artists will perform songs about the Great Victory and our native land.

Altogether, according to the information received by the Federation of Trade Unions RB, on May 1, trade union marches, rallies and meetings will be attended by more than 110 000 people from the cities and regions of Bashkortostan.
