On April 28 in Ufa, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov delivered a speech at the plenary session of the 3rd Congress of the Assembly of the Peoples Republic of Bashkortostan. The Congress was attended by the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration on Domestic Policy of Russia Mikhail Belousov, Deputy Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of Russia to the Volga Federal District Oleg Melnichenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia Nazirzhon Abdulganiyev, as well as representatives of federal and regional authorities, social and religious organizations.
“It is important that many peoples inhabiting Russia for centuries have been living side by side in peace and harmony. The multinational Bashkortostan is a good example of historically developed tolerance”, Rustem Khamitov said.
The Head of the Republic noted that the activities in the field of interethnic and interfaith relations cannot be measured only by quantitative indicators.
“In national policy it is necessary to use effective social and information technology, forms of uniting people around meaningful, interesting projects, including of ethno-cultural orientation.”
In his speech, Rustem Khamitov touched upon the topic of extremism prevention, especially among young people.
The Head of the Region marked that the Assembly and the national cultural centres should put forward not only ethnic and cultural, but also joint general civil projects, actively participate in work of local governments.
“The success of our common home - Bashkortostan is possible only under conditions of interethnic peace and harmony, stable socio-political and socio-economic situation”, Rustem Khamitov underlined.
Recall that the regional public organization "The Assembly of the Peoples of Bashkortostan Republic " was established in 2000. The Assembly of Peoples brings together more than 30 officially registered national cultural societies of the peoples living in the republic. One of its main tasks is to maintain a productive dialogue with the authorities aimed at improving inter-ethnic relations, preservation of peace and harmony in Bashkortostan, preservation of cultural and historical heritage of the peoples, creation of conditions for revival and development of handicrafts, promoting the official languages of the republic. The first Congress of the Assembly was held in December 2000, the second - in June 2009.
