Head of UNESCO will take part in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of Victory

UFA, 16 April 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. The UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova intends to come to Moscow to participate in the May celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Victory.

Irina Bokova recalled that earlier a Tolerance Centre was opened in Moscow. "This is exactly an appropriate occasion to visit this centre", the head of UNESCO said. The international organization as she said "cooperates actively with similar memorials around the world". This year is anniversary for UNESCO - in November this international organization marks 70th anniversary of its foundation.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) was established in 1945, with headquarters in Paris. The main objective of UNESCO is to promote peace, justice and the rule of law, universal respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the UN Charter for all peoples, without distinction of race, sex, language or religion. Today, this international structure includes 195 countries and eight members of staff.

Irina Bokova was elected to the post of Director General of UNESCO in 2009. In 2013, she was re-elected. The Head of UNESCO is a professional diplomat, recognized expert in the field of history of international relations and international law. Before taking her current position, she headed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, was her country's ambassador to France. A graduate of the Moscow State University of Foreign Affairs, Irina Bokova is fluent in the majority of the working languages of UNESCO - Russian, French, Spanish, and English.
