USATU scientists learned to forecast the spring flood in Bashkiria

UFA, 7 April 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Elmira Sabirova/. Bashkortostan and German Aerospace Centre have completed a joint project on environmental monitoring, the press service of the Republican State Committee for Information Technology reports.

Together with the German Aerospace Centre DLR ecological monitoring was conducted using remote probing from satellite data by the example of spring floods in the republic.

Employees of the "Geographic Information Systems" (GIS) Department of Ufa State Aviation Technical University (USATU) collected, analyzed and prepared a variety of data on the state of the snow cover and water reservoirs in the region from 1979 to 2014. The German Remote Probing Data Centre (DFD), being a part of the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) processed and analyzed various remote probing data to create a database containing information about the parameters of the snow cover in the republic. The results obtained allowed to form a picture of patterns of snow cover and a detailed analysis of its impact on the spring floods.

"We consider it a fruitful cooperation and look forward to further cooperation in the direction of environmental monitoring of the Republic of Bashkortostan. The results obtained in the project can be used for monitoring of forest fires, illegal dumping of household and industrial wastes, mining sites, illegal felling of forest resources ", representatives of the GIS Department USATU noted.
