World Games 2021 will be held in Birmingham

UFA, 22 January 2015. /Bashinform News Agency, Dmitry Slezin/. On January 22, 2015 in Lausanne, Switzerland during a press conference IWGA announced a city to host the 11th World Games.

Besides Ufa, the applications were submitted by the capital of Peru Lima and the city of Birmingham (Alabama, the USA).

Yesterday at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov made a presentation of Ufa as a candidate city to host the 11th World Games 2021.

During today's press conference presentation videos of the cities were again shown, finally the choice fell on Birmingham.

The World Games is a complex international competition in sports, which are not included in the Olympic program. They are held since 1981 by the International World Games Association (IWGA) under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee once every four year for 11 days. Russian athletes participate in these competitions since 1993.

On July 29, 2014 a delegation of Bashkortostan presented at the headquarters of the International World Games Association (IWGA) a Bid Book of Ufa to host the 11th World Games 2021, which contained a description of the republic and Ufa, its sports facilities and urban infrastructure. In October 2014 Ufa was visited by the IWGA technical commission.
