Specialists are available at places with necessary conditions - Rustem Khamitov

Bashkiria significantly lags behind other regions in a number of key indicators of the health care system, including number of physicians to number of population. This was reported by the President of the Republic Rustem Khamitov at a meeting with the heads of medical institutions and the heads of municipal administrations and urban districts of the republic.

“Over the past five years the number of doctors not only increased, but on the contrary - declined. The need for medical personnel still remains in rural areas, and now the problem becomes pressing in cities too,” Rustem Khamitov said.

“Doctor are available at those places where conditions are created for them - apartments, houses, working places, normal conditions for this activity”,Rustem Khamitov said.

Currently, 17 districts and the city of Agidel are "at risk", where the number of health care specialists is less than 20 per 10 thousand inhabitants. The situation is worst in Sterlitamak (12.8), and Ermekeevo and Iglino (16.1) regions. There is a growing shortage of doctors in the cities of Octyabrsky, Blagoveshchensk, Sterlitamak, Ufa and Neftekamsk.

Bashkortostan occupies the 10th place in the Volga Federal District on number of doctors to population. Udmurtia, Saratov region and Mordovia are leaders on this indicator.
