Rustem Khamitov charged head physicians to be more actively engaged in preventing suicide and alcoholism

UFA, 11 December 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Iliya Spiridonov/. Annually in Bashkortostan about 1,300 people die as a result of suicide. The head of the republic Rustem Khamitov reported this at a meeting with the heads of medical institutions and the heads of municipal administrations and urban districts of the republic.

Thus, for the first 9 months of 2014 in 30 republican regions mortality exceeds 50 people per 100,000 population. The worst results (over 80 people) were recorded in Chekmagush, Kugarchy, Fedorovo, Beloretsk and Kigy regions.

One of the reasons for high mortality rate in the region is alcoholism. Thus, 13 districts this year show negative trend in number of deaths from acute alcoholism. Karaidel, Arkhangelsk and Karmaskaly regions are anti-leaders on this indicator.

We have almost 400 thousand heavy drinkers, 10 percent of the population. After all, these are mostly people of the working age. So, every fourth man of the working age is a heavy drinker. Dysfunctional families, suicides, drinkers – it is a zone of your own responsibility,” Rustem Khamitov said addressing to the head physicians.
