Rustem Khamitov: "Peacefulness is bred not so much through words, but rather through good deeds"

UFA, 12 November 2014. /Bashinform News Agency/. In the 21th issue of the "Herald of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO" for this year devoted to the 60th anniversary of the entry of the USSR/Russia to UNESCO, an article by the President of Bashkortostan, a member of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Rustem Khamitov was published. The head of the region told about 15-years’ experience of cooperation between our republic and UNESCO, about the last year's presentation of Bashkortostan at the headquarters of this international organization.
According to Rustem Khamitov, the world is in dire need of a spiritual, moral and cultural “shield.” In
this respect UNESCO’s role in promoting humanity, peace, spiritual wealth and historical memory cannot be overestimated. He believes that this is the Unesco’s main mission.
“Nowadays people often forget and neglect true values. Bashkortostan is an industrial region with oil refineries, petrochemical and mechanical engineering centres. However, we should not forget our
intangible wealth. A spiritually immature society deprived of morals cannot develop economy. In the most global sense, currency, oil price or Dow Jones index cannot unite the mankind. The ideas of peace, kindness, humanity, and knowledge, promoted by UNESCO - can provide the unity. That is why they are so important for most people,” Rustem Jhamitov marked.
Speaking about wider cooperation with UNESCO President RB stressed the need to involve more
people into already existing programs through contests, telebridges, marathons, internships
abroad, creation of biosphere reserves and natural parks, rather than to initiate new projects. "Perfection has no limits and so we should call for meticulous and hard work in UNESCO-led
cultural, educational, and scientific activities. We need to attract young people to participate in this work. Absorbing the world standards of tolerance, humanity, and peace from the early childhood, people would be unlikely to support ideologies destroying society's founding principles and to take up
arms for instability. Peacefulness is bred not so much through words, but rather through good deeds,” the President of Bashkortostan, the member of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Rustem Khamitov said.
"The Herald of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO" is an official publication of UNESCO and is distributed in 195 member countries of the international organization. Full article of Rustem Khamitov is available on the «In detail» section.
