Unique large-scale mammoths’ burial is found in Bashkortostan

UFA, 15 October 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Leila Aralbaeva/. In Bashkortostan large amounts of the ancient mammoth remains were found. The age of the discovery is about 200 thousand B.C.
In summer while the development of the sand pit on the right bank of the Belaya River near Kieshki village of Karmaskaly region numerous remains of fossil animals were found, among which there were bones and tusks of the mammoth.
Employees of the pit addressed to the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography and reported an unusual discovery. Archaeologists of USC RAS immediately drove to the place of remains discovery.
“This is a unique event. At once a whole range of mammoth remains is found: a femur bone, vertebrae, and a tusk, broken in half. It was a large burial. The bones belonged probably to different mammoths, they are scattered over an area of 200 m. Thus, the Khazar mammoth, which is represented in the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography has now a "younger brother", the junior researcher at the Department of Archaeological Heritage of Rail Kuzeev Institute for Ethnological Studies USC RAS Elvir Kamaleev said.
Now scientists have a lot of work on description and restoration of the remains found.
