Ufa planetarium will launch a stratospheric balloon on the day of its anniversary

UFA, 1 October 2014. /Bashinform News Agency, Juliya Antipina/. On 4 - 10 October, Ufa Planetarium will hold a series of events dedicated to its half-century anniversary and the World Space Week.

It is expected that the launch of a stratospheric balloon to near space at a height of 30 km will be a highlight of the day. The balloon has a special platform with photo and video equipment. During the rise it will shoot Ufa and its atmosphere. Within an hour after the flight the balloon will increase in diameter to 10 m and blow out. The platform with the help of a parachute will land to the ground. The device is equipped with search beacons.

The event starts on October 4 at 12.30 in the square in front of the Planetarium.

The Planetarium spokesmen warn that the launch of the balloon depends on the weather. If it is raining with strong wind on October 4, the launch and all activities in the square will be postponed to October 5 at the same time.

The celebrating program of the 50th anniversary of the planetarium includes also quizzes, results of the contest "Nebo", the film festival of fantastic films and demonstration of fulldome shows about space.

It is also scheduled a meeting with our fellow countryman, Honored Test Pilot of Russia, Test-Cosmonaut of the USSR Ural Sultanov, and scientific and informative lecture by Denis Efremov about the launch and tracking of stratospheric balloons.
