Cooperation agreement between Bashkortostan and Atyrau region of Kazakhstan is signed

On September 30, in the city of Atyrau (Kazakhstan) in the framework of the XI Forum of Interregional Cooperation of Russia and Kazakhstan, the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and Akim of Atyrau region Baktikozha Izmuhambetov in the presence of the Russian President Vladimir Putin and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed the Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Atyrau region in trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian spheres.

According to the press service of the head of the republic, the document focuses on strengthening of cooperation in such sectors as chemical and petrochemical industry, mechanical engineering, transport and agriculture. The parties plan to build mutual supply of products for industrial use and consumer goods.

In addition, the agreement will contribute to the development of scientific and cultural cooperation between the regions, including the implementation of joint research projects, education and youth programs, cultural exchange, as well as effective interaction in the sphere of tourism and sport.

Kazakhstan's share in the national foreign trade turnover with CIS countries is 6.2 percent (5th place). In 2013, the volume of trade amounted to $ 94.3 million, with more than 99 percent of this amount accounted for export. Among the main products that Bashkortostan supplies to Kazakhstan are petrochemicals and petroleum products, wood and metals, glass, building materials, oil field equipment and transport. Steel products, raw materials for fertilizers, flour and cereal products are imported in the republic.

The volume of investments from Kazakhstan accumulated in Bashkortostan economy amounted to $ 3.8 million as of the end of 2013. The majority of joint ventures are engaged in the trading sphere.

Today, cooperation between Bashkortostan and Astana, Pavlodar and Aktobe regions is the most actively developing.
