Bashkortostan wins the first place in number of newborns in the Volga Federal District and the sixth in the country

Bashkortostan ranks first in the Volga Federal District and the sixth in the country in number of births. For six months 29210 children were born alive in the republic that is by 1085 more than in the same period of the last year (28125).

In number of births Bashkortostan follows Moscow - 65702; Moscow Region - 42413; Krasnodar Territory - 33822 and the Sverdlovsk Region - 30807.

As reported by the Ministry of Health RB, the infant mortality rate for the six months was 8.4 per thousand live births.

Five-year average infant mortality rate (for 2009-2013) in Bashkortostan was - 7.2 per thousand live births, in the Russian Federation - 7.9.

Among the causes of infant mortality the individual states of the perinatal period are on the first place (55.6 percent), congenital anomalies (19.8 percent, including 46 percent of congenital heart disease) on the second, blood diseases and certain disorders involving the immune mechanism are on the third (8.7 percent) place.

According to the Deputy Minister of Health RB Ralida Shakirova, the infant mortality rate is directly related with the health of a mother and delivery time.

Meanwhile, a three-tier health care system is formed in the republic. Material and technical base of the obstetric care and childhood is strengthened. However, there are still problems with staffing. The staffing level of obstetrician-gynecologists is 59.2 percent, neonatologists - 50.2 percent, pediatricians - 62.5 percent, intensive care specialists - 47 percent.
