Bashkortostan is among five outsiders in the Russian road safety rating

Bashkortostan took the 41st position out of 45 in the "road" rating compiled by interregional public centre "For Safety of Russian Roads." It is based on statistics of accidents that occurred in the second quarter of the year due to poor road conditions. For three months our republic fell at once by 21 points - from the 20th place in January-March to 41st in January-June.
Subjects presented in the rating are conditionally divided into three zones. The most unfavourable "red" zone includes 25 regions. Bashkortostan is among subjects RF, where a number of accidents, including two or more fatalities increased markedly in the second quarter of the year.
354 accidents due to poor road conditions were recorded in Bashkortostan in April-June - 77 people died and 438 were injured. The final rating is 3.1. In the first quarter the republic appeared in more favourable "yellow" zone with a rating of 2.5.
The Belgorod region is the safest with 84 accidents related to poor road conditions, 25 fatalities and 96 injured people. The "green" zone also includes Kaliningrad, Smolensk region, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Krai, St. Petersburg and Arkhangelsk region.
The rating takes into account various factors, in particular, the region's population, road length and value of the fleet.
According to the head of "For Safety of Russian Roads" centre Dmitry Leontiev, hits and drops in accident statistics are spontaneous in nature and depend heavily on administrative factors, seasonality and performance of local traffic police.
