For more than 30 years, the Health Professional Day has been celebrated in Russia on every third Sunday of June. It was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR in October 1980.

Bashkortostan Statistics Agency publishes interesting historical facts and figures devoted to medical professional holiday.

An average resident of Bashkortostan visited doctors 10 times throughout the year of 2013. The total number of appointments to physicians amounted to 41 million for the year.

Over the last year more than 848,000 patients were taken to hospitals, including 136,000 children. About 279,000 operations were made in day-night and day hospitals, more than 187,000 ones - in outpatient clinics.

Statistics say that 100-150 years ago, health care was represented by separate institutions, located mainly in provincial centres and large cities.

Currently, health care institutions of secondary vocational education annually prepare about two thousand professionals, universities - about 900.

Today in the republic there are about 17,000 doctors of all specialties. 4.3 thousand of them have therapeutic profile, 1,7 thousands - surgical. About 1.8 thousand doctors are pediatricians, more than one thousand - dentists.

42 doctors of all areas of work are accounted per 10 000 inhabitants of Bashkortostan. Number of paramedical personnel is 109 people per 10 000 republican residents.
