Rustem Khamitov and RUSNANO head Anatoly Chubais opened a PET Centre in Ufa

The new centre of positron-emission tomography began operating in Ufa. The solemn opening of the PET centre on Thursday, May 15, was attended by the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov and RUSNANO head Anatoly Chubais.
The joint project of RUSNANO, JSC " RosMedTechnology" and the Hungarian company "Medilux" on creating the first in Russia chain of diagnostic PET centres took its start in Bashkortostan.
The head of the region Rustem Khamitov thanked the Russian partners for the opportunity given to our republic of becoming a leader in the field of radio medicine.
“When we started the project there were many doubts regarding the applicability of this technology in Russia and co-operation issues between medicine and business. We decided to launch an extensive chain of diagnostic centres in Bashkiria and this was right decision. For less than two years, the most modern Russian nuclear medicine centre appeared. Soon we plan to open such centres in Lipetsk, Orel, Tambov, Bryansk, Yekaterinburg, Samara, Novosibirsk and Kaluga”, Anatoly Chubais said.
Recall that the PET centre construction began in Ufa in October 2012. All procedures provided here are free of charge for residents of Bashkiria.
Primarily production of short-lived isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals is arranged in the tomography centre. According to the Deputy General Director for Medical Affairs of LLC "PET Technology" Pavel Golovin, combining pharmaceuticals production with diagnosis and radiosurgery department significantly reduces a distance between diagnostics and treatment.
In the near future another complex - robotic radiosurgery system - CyberKnife will also be launched in the Ufa PET centre. With the help of this device tumors, which are closely located to vital organs, are cut.
For comparison: one session of such exposure in Moscow clinics worth about 200 thousand rubles. Free medical services will be rendered only to those patients for whom they are really vital.
170 people have already passed diagnostics in Ufa PET centre. By the end of 2015 it is planned that the capacity of all diagnostics procedures will reach five thousand. Also supply of pharmaceuticals by aircraft beyond Bashkiria will be organized on the basis of PET centre facilities.
There are about 10 such diagnostics centres in Russia.
According to experts, currently about 77,000 people with cancer are registered in the Republic of Bashkortostan.
