Rustem Khamitov: "Agencies responsible for floods forecasting failed in Bashkortostan"

On May 12, during a briefing session in the Government RB, the President of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov drew attention of the attendees to the fact that the second wave of floods in the republic took place unexpectedly, including for experts of hydrometeorology and territorial departments of water resources on RB, the press service of the head of the region informs.

"Neither hydrometeorologists nor water service employees timely warned residents of the republic and the authorities about the expected second wave of floods,” Khamitov said. “Several settlements, a number of roads were flooded. People were not properly prepared for such high water. Although this situation was not critical for our republic, preparatory prognostic works have been carried out unacceptably bad".

The Bashkortostan President instructed Vice Premier Marat Magadeev to conduct further systematic work on preparation for floods of the next years.

During preventive works it is supposed to assess the state of waterworks, bridges and secure them, to arrange activities on clearing and deepening of riverbeds, to establish dams near residential neighborhoods.

Flooding of Ufa districts occurs when the level of water in the River White reaches 7.05 metres. Today, it is 6.67 metres.
