Pneumococcal disease is included in the National Immunization Calendar

Vaccination against pneumococcal disease is included in the Russian National Immunization Calendar. Rafael Yapparov, the chief physician of the Republican Centre for Prevention and Control of AIDS and other infectious diseases informed about it at a press conference in Bashinform News Agency.
“Since this year, infants of the first year of life are vaccinated against pneumococcal infection. Vaccination will be done twice: in two and four months, followed by a revaccination in the second year of life,” Rafael Yapparov said.
The chief physician explained that the greatest number of deaths and illnesses among young children is associated with pneumonia, ear infections and other infectious disorders, which are caused by pneumococcus.
Also on epidemic indications National Immunization Calendar includes vaccination against hepatitis A , varicella, rotavirus (the last is obligatory among children under one year) and from shigellosis (dysentery). It will be indicated for workers employed in public catering and utility services.
