Ufa Universities remains inaccessible for disabled people

Bashkir Republican organization of the All-Russian Society of Disabled People (BRO VOI) and activists of the regional branch of "Young Guard of United Russia" held an action examining accessibility of higher educational institutions of Ufa for people with disabilities. Bashkir State University, Bashkir Agricultural University, Ufa State Aviation Technical University, Bashkir State Medical University, Ufa Academy of Economics and Service and Bashkir State Pedagogical University were checked. As the press -secretary of BRO VOI Anna Aksenova says, wheelchair users experienced difficulties in entering the universities buildings.
The way to the entrance door of Bashkir State University was blocked with numerous steps. The entrance to Agricultural University was easier, but people with disabilities did not manage to reach even the ground floor classrooms. At Bashkir State Pedagogical University disabled people passed the entire ground floor, but they could not ascend the first one. Approximately the same situation was at Ufa State Academy of Economics and Service and at Ufa State Aviation Technical University. Members of the event did not manage to enter the Medical University building because of lack of access ramps.
“All information collected by us will be transferred to the central headquarters of the "Young Guard" in Moscow,” Aynur Shaikhutdinov, the head of the regional headquarters of "Young Guard of United Russia" in Bashkortostan said. “Then it will be sent to those authorities, which have powers to decide issues of reconstruction, re-equipping of education institutions. They will be equipped in such a way that people with disabilities could easily enter them, move along them.”
It is worth noting that the actions to identify accessibility of the urban environment initiated by the "Young Guard" and Bashkir Republican organization of the All-Russian Society of Disabled People were launched in Ufa four years ago. Over the years, the capital of Bashkortostan has changed much. But not all problems are solved unfortunately, BRO VOI experts say.
