Tournament to the memory of Heroes of the Soviet Union was held in Zilairsky region

In Zilairsky region a sports holiday devoted to Heroes of the Soviet Union –natives of the region was held. More than seven and a half thousand Zilair residents of different age and nationalities went to the front. Half from them did not come back from battle-fields. Eight Zilair natives for heroism and courage became Heroes of the Soviet Union. In their honour in the regional recreation centre of Zilair village a table tennis tournament on the Cup of fellow countrymen — Heroes of the Soviet Union took place, the information-analytical department of regional administration informs. The sports holiday was organised in order to attract attention of young people to the history of their native land and their patriotic education.

Trans-Urals (sportsmen from Sibay, Baimaksky, Zianchurinsky regions) and Zilairsky region teams tried strength against each other at the tournament. It was spent five matches in different age categories. Following the results of duels the Trans-Urals team won with the score 3:2.

For today only 10 participants of war and 446 workers of homefront live in Zilairsky region.
