April 28 - World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Annually on April 28, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is marked. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is spent in more than 100 countries at the initiative of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in order to focus international attention on emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health and on the magnitude of work-related injuries, diseases and fatalities worldwide.

The International Labour Organisation designated occupational diseases prevention as subject of labour safety day in 2013.

All over the world occupational diseases are the main reasons of death rate connected with industrial activity.

According to ILO estimates, out of 2.34 million occupational fatalities every year, only 321,000 are due to accidents. The remaining 2.02 million deaths are caused by various types of work-related diseases, which correspond to a daily average of more than 5,500 deaths.

According to the Directorate of Rospotrebnadzor on Bashkortostan, 120 cases of occupational diseases and poisonings were registered in the republic in 2012.

Basically three branches of republican economy are hazardous from this point of view: mining operations, metallurgical manufactures and manufactures of ready metal products and agriculture where levels of occupational diseases exceed average across the republic for more than five times.

The State Labour Inspection on RB considers important to carry out activity within the limits of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work at each company, in each labour team. For example, it can be extraordinary trainings concerning personal protective equipment usage and first-aid treatment for victims, issuing and placing at workplaces visual aids on labour safety, healthy way of life.

Besides, this sort of activity can include an analysis of a company’s work concerning medical examination of employees, equipment by first-aid sets of corporate medical aid posts, taking measures on carrying out of workplaces certification, creation of rooms for rest and psychological relax, and other things.
