Today is the International day of prisoners' liberation from fascist death camps

The International day of prisoners' liberation from fascist death camps is celebrated today. On April 11, 1945 prisoners of Buchenwald (the largest concentration camp) raised the international revolt against Hitlerites. When the American army entered the camp the revolted already took the death camp under control, and the red flag was lifted over Buchenwald. The date of April 11, the United Nations accepted as the day when the whole world celebrated the International day of prisoners' liberation from fascist death camps.

In the territory of Germany and the countries occupied by it there were more than 14 thousand concentration camps, prisons, ghetto where more than 20 million people from 30 countries of the world were imprisoned. 12 million of them did not live to liberation, among them — about two million children. About five million Soviet citizens died in death camps. As confessed by Hitlerites, a prisoner which life expectancy in a camp made less than a year, brought to Nazis almost one and a half thousand reichsmarks of net profit.

As of April 11, 2012 about 300 former prisoners lived in Bashkortostan.

Today in the Republican Fame Hall a meeting of the former prisoners of camps with young people will be held. They will tell about black ordeals suffered by the Soviet citizens in Buchenwald, Oswiecim, Majdanek, Salaspils and other death camps. The meeting will start at 14 o'clock.
