The US and Bashkir journalists have discussed opportunities of printed and online mass-media
Bashkir and US journalism has common problems – this theme was discussed at the meeting of representatives of big Republican editions and US journalists, held in the news agency “Bashinform”. Within the frames of the program for two-sided journalist exchange between Russia and the USA 12 journalists of American media-industry arrived in Russia and three of them visited Bashkortostan.
The head of the Agency for the press and mass-media RB Boris Melkoedov and editors-in-chief of the news agency “Bashinform”, newspapers “Republic of Bashkortostan”, “KYZYL TAN” and other Republican editions were present at the meeting.
As it turned out in the course of the meeting, American printed editions lose popularity, yielding to their electronic opponents, but the USA has its own secrets for maintaining the authority of peripheral newspapers.
Thus, photo-reporter, cooperaing with “The New York Times”, “The Wall Street Journal” and “The New Yorker” Mathew Scott Brower has mentioned that the prerogative to inform readers about local news will always be the trump card of provincial press, while bigger editions orient themselves to more wide-scaled events of the country. In some American towns big editions are even prohibited for sale and these measures are undertaken for preservation of the local press.
The reported and photo-journalist of the magazine “Time” Alice Ambrose has also mentioned that online US editions are more popular and hypertext widens opportunities of their readers. Representatives of Republican mass-media have mentioned that similar tendency can be observed in Bashkir journalism too.
The guests from the USA have also told that they face certain difficulties in coverage of problems in oil-gas industry since enterprises of this branch don’t want to provide journalists with truthful information. Bashkir colleagues have shared their experience in work with such companies.
Within the frames of the visit US representatives have met with the President RB Rustem Khamitov and watched places of interest in Ufa. On December 11 they will go on excursion to one of local big oil companies.
