Bashkir biologists are going to the expedition to revive «golden root» on Iremel Mountain

From August 21 till August 23, in the territory of natural park "Iremel" Bashkir biologists will plant more than 450 specimens of Rhodiola iremelica Boriss, or otherwise – «golden root». Because of vandalism in relation to this herb Rhodiola iremelica is now on the verge of disappearance and it is already included in the Red Book of Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk area.

– In 1970s there were ten thousands of Rhodiola iremelica. Then two and even four specimen of this herb grew on each square metre. Last researches of 2009-2011 showed that hardly more than 150 plants remained on Iremel. Population of "golden root» was almost completely destroyed, the laboratory chief of wild-growing flora of Botanical Garden-Institute of Ufa Scientific Centre RAS Larissa Abramova said.

According to Larissa Abramova, republican biologists are engaged in population restoration of Rhodiola iremelica since 2000.

For these years in the mountainous territory employees of Biology Institute of Ufa Scientific Centre RAS and the Botanical Garden-Institute planted about 1500 plants of the Bashkortostan pearl– «golden root».

The optimum time for planting is August-September, scientists consider. It would be desirable to believe that in due course, thanks to efforts of republican biologists Rhodiola iremelica will flourish again with itself the slopes of Iremel.
