Bashkir Wikipedia works in full volume in the day of protest shutdown of ru.wikipedia.org

On July 10 the Bashkir segment of the most popular global crowd-source internet encyclopedia works stably, though its Russian segment is switched off because of the strike. Russian segment is disconnected as a sign of protest of Russian Wikipedia activists against regulations of so-called bill N89417-6 and against amendments to several federal laws and to the Administrative Code of Russia, first of all to the federal law N149 “About information, information protection and IT”, approved on July 27, 2006.
Initiators of the virtual strike dated temporary shutdown of Wikipedia Russian segment to the second reading of the bill by State Duma deputies. In their opinion these amendments may be resulted in launching of “extrajudicial censorship of the whole Russian-speaking internet, including closure of access to Wikipedia Russian articles” and they protest “against censorship, dangerous for free knowledge, open for the whole mankind”.
Along with Bashkir Wikipedia Udmurt, Tatar, Chuvash and other divisions of the encyclopedia, working in aboriginal languages of Russian Federation, are also working stably today, July 10, 2012.
Russian division of Wikipedia is considered one of the largest in the world, holding the eighth place among other global Wikipedia’s divisions. On July 10, 2012, 873918 stable articles are published here and more than three million articles are found in the edit mode. The majority of the articles are found in the mode of permanent edit and at present time more than 50 million corrections are made here.
Bashkir Wikipedia holds the 94th place in global Wikipedia, it contains 16 thousand stable articles and 26180 articles are being edited now by six thousand authors.
UPD: Administrators of Wikipedia Bashkir division express solidarity with the participants of the protest action, placing the message concerning the forthcoming consideration of the bill by State Duma deputies and the reference to the corresponding article on the main page of the Bashkir division.
