Jewish school in Ufa celebrates the 20th anniversary

The Jewish Sunday school in Ufa celebrated the 20th anniversary not long ago and on this occasion pupils, teachers, school-leavers and guests from Israel and Israeli Embassy in Russia gathered in the Jewish national cultural center.
The history of the school is directly connected with revival of Jewish community in Ufa. The Jewish culture club “Stern” was opened here in 1989 on the wave of perestroika. Several hobby groups started working at the same time but the interest of people in their roots, native language and culture was so great that these groups just failed to meet all their demands.
One of activists of local Jewish community Israel Weisman offered to open a Sunday school that time. The idea was supported and the first Jewish Sunday school was opened in Ufa.
Pupils and school-leavers and the best Jewish art groups of Ufa celebrated the jubilee of the Sunday school. The video-bridge with the state of Israel was opened here too.
