Today is International Day of Navruz

The International Day of Navruz is celebrated today. This holiday is celebrated at international level since 2010. The governments of several states offered to include this new date into United Nations Organization calendar: Azerbaijan, Albania, Afghanistan, Macedonia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Turkey. As a result the UNO General Assembly has approved the initiative of these countries and fixed the Day of Navruz on March 21. But Navruz has been included into the list of non-material cultural heritage of the mankind still in 2009. UNO believes that this holiday contributes to popularization of ideas of peace and solidarity between generations and families, to conciliation and good-neighborliness.
Navruz is a New Year holiday, celebrated in the day of spring equinox by several nations of Eurasia. It signifies the first day of spring and renovation of nature. This holiday originates from the pre-written epoch of the history of the mankind (more than three thousand years ago). Navruz is considered the most ancient agricultural holiday and its origin is directly connected with beginnings of the agricultural calendar. This day is considered one of the most important and the richest by its various content holidays. Navruz is a cyclic beginning of the calendar and Navruz is considered the first day of a year according to the Iranian solar calendar.
Navruz is traditionally celebrated by Iranian-speaking and Turk-speaking nations, mainly Muslims. This holiday is especially respected in the Middle and the Central Asia, in Caucasus, Turkey and in Balkan states.
In Bashkortostan this holiday is mainly celebrated by representatives of the Diasporas of the Middle Asia and Caucasus. It is also popular among Bashkirs and Tatars but not as the plough festival, for instance. Every year representatives of national-cultural communities of our Republic celebrate this holiday here but since Bashkortostan is located in more northern latitudes than the republics of the Middle Asia this holiday is celebrated in our Republic slightly later because of still winter weather conditions.
