Orthodox Christians begin the Lent

Eugene Rakhimkulov
Orthodox Christians begin the Lent – the longest and the strictest fast. This tradition reminds us of 40 days, which Jesus Christ had spent in the desert, overcoming temptations, but the main essence of the Lent is not a restriction in meals but the internal spiritual purification.
In the course of the Lent the Christian Church urges the believers to desist themselves from meat, milk, eggs and fish, including in staff of various foods.
The Lent will be completed with the main Christian holiday – the Easter.
