Bashkortostan leads in Volga federal district by population
According to the all-Russian population census-2011 Bashkortostan leads by population in Volga federal district. According to information, published by “The Russian Newspaper”, 4 million 72 thousand 292 people live in the Republic. Tatarstan is found on the second place (three million 786 thousand 488) and Nizhniy Novgorod – on the third position (3 million 310 thousand 597).
As for the ratio between urban and rural population, citizens make up 60,4% in Bashkortostan and villagers – 39,6%. The largest number of urban citizens live in Samara region (80,2%), Nizhniy Novgorod region (78,9%) and in Tatarstan (75,4%). If comparing the statistical data on Volga federal district and Russian Federation, it turns out that Volga federal district with population almost 30 million people (29 million 899 thousand 699) holds the second place among eight federal districts – after the Central federal district (38 million 427 thousand 539). By urban population Volga federal district holds the sixth place (70,8%), leaving only the Southern federal district (62,4%) and the North-Caucasian federal district (49,2%) behind. In a whole 73,7% of Russians live in cities.
