Bashkortostan will hold a questioning concerning prohibition of plastic bags

Bashkortostan will become the first Russian region, where a wide-scaled sociological poll concerning possible prohibition of plastic bags in the country is to be held. The chairman of the State Duma committee for natural resources, nature management and ecology Eugene Tugolukov already supported the initiative of the public ecological movement “Eco”, aimed at either complete or partial abolition of plastic bags.
“We live in the world of plastic goods and wares, so many people often call this world a plastic age. It is horrible when we watch plastic everywhere since many people don’t realize to what extent it is harmful. The activists of the public movement “Eco” in Rostov region prepared the project of the program, called “Unpacking”. This program is taken as a base of the federal program which we intend to pass through the State Duma. But the project mustn’t be unripe so we want to hold a thorough investigation in order to find out are people ready to refuse fr om plastic bags in case they are offered a good alternative. The regional division of “Eco” in Bashkortostan is ready to start the interrogation, so our Republic can become the first Russian region, wh ere such investigation is made” – the head of the regional “Eco” division in Bashkortostan Guzelle Latypova said at the ecological forum “Eco World-2011”, held in Krasnodar region now.
About 6-10% of population of Bashkortostan will participate in the “plastic” questioning. It will start at the end of September. The results of the questioning will be analyzed and included into the bill, worked up now. After that similar interrogations will be held in other Russian regions but the autumn sociological “unpacking” poll will become the first in the series of actions, aimed at thorough investigation of public opinion and, if possible, at re-orientation of people to the everyday use of paper bags and eco-bags. Various actions, aimed at explanation of the harm of the plastic bags, are already scheduled. One more “plastic” interrogation in spring 2012 will become the final accord. It will help to compare the results of the autumn and the spring polls in order to get to know to what extent the public opinion changed for this period of time.
