The Orthodox Christians are celebrating one of the most popular Christian holidays today – the Transfiguration and festive prayers are serviced in all Russian churches all over the country, including Ufa Eparchy.
Traditionally the Transfiguration is celebrated during the Assumption fast, which started on August 14. It is lasting during two weeks and by its severity it is equal to the Lent. In the course of it there is only one day, when Christians may eat fish and this is exactly the Day of Transfiguration but only if it falls either on Wednesday or on Friday. Today is Friday, so those, who keep the fast, are lucky – they may eat fish.
