“Yandex” begins panoramic shooting of Russian cities in Ufa

The biggest Russian internet-company “Yandex” begins panoramic air shooting of Russian cities and Ufa stands the first in the line. The video tape footage will be used by the service “Yandex maps”, as it is reported by the company’s official blog. According to the preliminary idea the panoramas will be shot from the pilotless radio-controlled airship. The shooting is scheduled on the first days of August and the airship will be launched from the Ufa stadium “Dynamo”. It will stay in the air about two hours depending upon the weather. At present time the airship’s equipment is tested and pre-start procedures are running. The project starts in Ufa and later it will be applied to other Russian cities.

The technology of panoramic shooting from the bird’s view will be realized with the help of five cams, fastened to the special airship, filled with helium. The airship will be driven from the surface with the help of radio transmitter, same as the radio-controlled pilotless aircrafts. Further the video materials will be combined into the panoramas. The panoramas will be approximately available on the server “Yandex maps” (www.map.yandex.ru) in the third quarter of the year.

As the specialists told to “Bashinform”, the Swiss apparatus is considered the biggest pilotless radio-controlled airship in Russia. Its length is 12 meters and the volume – 57 cubic meters. Similar models are used by NASA and by the Oxford University for scientific investigations.

In 2010 Google has tried similar method of shooting. The company used a kite for shooting of one of the islands on San-Blas archipelago near the coast of Panama.

At present time the panoramas of about one hundred towns and settlements in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Byelorussia, made on surface, are published by the Yandex map service. Ufa has fallen in the lens of Yandex panoramic cameras in the end of summer 2009. Now the virtual photo-walks in the majority of Ufa streets are available for the users of the service www.map.yandex.ru.
