Communication with space will help to decrease road traffic accidents

Seriousness of consequences of road accidents is often defined by minutes. The accident emergency response system "ERA-GLONASS" is meant to reduce reaction time for accidents as much as possible.

— The accident emergency response system is based on application of technologies of domestic global navigating satellite system GLONASS. It is the federal project which commercial operation in scales of the whole country will start in 2013, — Alexander Gurko, the Chief Executive Officer of JSC «Navigation-Information Systems» (NIS GLONASS) said during his visit to Ufa.

We should remind that one of these days between the Republican Government and the company-operator the cooperation agreement was signed in the capital of Bashkortostan.

The main objective of introduction of the "ERA-GLONASS" program is to increase efficiency of reporting to emergency services on road accidents and other emergency situations. The project implies equipping all types of new motor vehicles with GLONASS satellite navigation communication devices (terminals). According to Alexander Gurko, already today GLONASS covers all territory of Russia. Trouble-free work is provided with 23 space vehicles. In the near prospect there is an exit of the Russian navigating satellite system in the international level.

The operating principle of "ERA-GLONASS" system is such that in the event of a serious accident, the terminal will activate automatically and transmit the vehicle's exact coordinates and other data to the operator which specifies the details of the accident and informs emergency services (EMERCOM rescue, police, ambulance etc.).

Universal expansion of the given system will allow to decrease consequences of various accidents in times, developers of the program consider.

In Bashkortostan preparation for introduction of this and several other projects on the basis of GLONASS will start already this summer.
