Winter time is cancelled in Russia

On June 9, Dmitry Medvedev signed the Federal law «Concerning timekeeping», the press-service of the President of Russia informs. According to it seasonal adjusting of clocks in the Russian Federation is cancelled and the concept of calendar day, year and month is specified.

The law was accepted by the State Duma on May 20, 2011 and approved by the Federation Council on May 25, this year.

The new statutory act should satisfy demand of citizens, society and the state in a trustworthy information concerning the time and calendar date and protect our national economy from negative consequences of use of doubtful information about the time. New bases of timekeeping will allow to avoid conflict situations in such areas, as information technologies, communication, power engineering and others.

The federal law enters into operation the concept «time-zone». Powers of the Government of the Russian Federation are defined, the competence of federal public authorities and public authorities of subjects of the Russian Federation in the field of timekeeping, and also legal responsibility for distribution and unreliable information use about the time, led to material losses of citizens and legal bodies is established.

The new timekeeping will be started in sixty days.
