Ufa honors liquidators of Chernobyl catastrophe

The theatrical show-requiem “Fallen Star”, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Chernobyl tragedy, will take place on Tuesday, April 26, in Ufa. The liquidators of the breakdown at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant will be honored in the Ufa Culture Palace.
The deputy Prime-Minister of the Government RB Fidus Yamaltdinov, the head of Ufa administration Paul Kachkaev, the Minister of labor and population social protection RB Lenara Ivanova, the Minister of culture RB Oscar Abdrazakov and other top officials RB will take part in the action.
At present time there are 2626 participants of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe after-effects liquidation in Bashkortostan, including 708 in Ufa.
50 million curie of various radioactive nuclides was blown out into the air as a result of the breakdown at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. More than 600 thousand citizens of the USSR took part in liquidation of the catastrophe, sacrificing themselves. The after-effects of that catastrophe turned out to be of planetary scale and affected about 30 million citizens of the USSR, the press-service of the Ministry of nature management and ecology RB reminded.
It seems that bitterness and acuteness of that tragedy become obliterated in the course of time. But after the destructive earthquake in Japan the whole world has got to know about new breakdown at the nuclear power plant Fukusima-1. A bulk of radioactive nuclides has been discharged into atmosphere and into the ocean. The breakdown at Fukusima-1 received the seventh – the highest category of nuclear threat according to classification by the International Atomic Energy Agency, i.e. this breakdown is called equal to the Chernobyl catastrophe and the events, which occurred 25 years ago, remind of themselves today again.
