Efficiency of anti-drug activity has been discussed in Ufa

The gathering of the anti-drug commission RB, headed by the President RB Rustem Khamitov, has taken place in Ufa.

“Drugs represent a serious threat to the national security” – the President RB said – “The level of drug prices is very high in Russian Federation and the rise of circulation of synthetic drugs as well as the growth of the number of their consumers represents one more alarming tendency. For the last five years the number of such drug users has become two thousand people more, making up nine thousand now. These people are officially registered as drug addicts but the real figures are much higher”.

5342 crimes in sphere of illegal drug circulation have been committed in Bashkiria in 2010. More than 260kg of drugs has been arrested, i.e. 800 thousand one-time doses and the cost of these doses in the black market would have made up 110 million rubles. The majority of these crimes were committed by local drug pushers. As for the drug barons, they usually duck out.

As it is well known, the major part of drugs comes to the Republic fr om Kazakhstan – this is the result of closeness with Afghanistan and the Middle Asia and this factor has to be taken into account. Specialists say the production of opium has increased dozens times for the last five years in Afghanistan. The whole country started cultivating opium poppy and poppy straw.

At present time one has to specify to what extent the measures, undertaken with respect to drug situation in Bashkortostan are efficient and what additional steps have to be undertaken.

The deputy head of the state anti-drug committee Sergey Vasiliev has taken the floor with the report about activity of the regional anti-drug commissions in Volga federal district. He called Bashkortostan one of the regions, wh ere local authority coped with this problem in the best way.

Rustem Khamitov has asked when the law about prescribed sales of codeine-containing medicines is going to come into force.

“The chairman of the state anti-drug committee Viktor Ivanov understands this problem in full measure” – Sergey Vasiliev answered – “The law has to come into force beginning from May 1, 2011. Now the law undergoes certain corrections and the final proposals to it are discussed. This problem is very serious but it will be definitely solved”.
