Ufa eparchy comes against juvenile justice

Representatives of Russian Orthodox Church in Bashkiria stand resolutely against introduction of the elements of juvenile justice in Russia, the Archbishop of Ufa and Salavat Nikon said on Wednesday at the press-conference in the news agency “Bashinform”.

“We think such laws are absolutely unacceptable for Russian society. Juvenile justice will bring the split, inciting children against their parents and the most important thing is that it deprives our nations of the opportunity to educate the younger generation within the frames of their traditional religions and national originality”.

The question concerning possible introduction of juvenile justice in Russia is recently roughly debated. In October 2010 the Russian State Duma torpedoed the bill “About juvenile courts” under severe public pressure. But the adherents of juvenile justice try to push it through in a new package. Several protect actions against juvenile justice in Russia have taken place in autumn 2010 in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

At present time the idea of juvenile justice is realized in many world countries, representing the combination of legal mechanisms for protection of child rights. Under all seeming reasonableness of such justice system the priority of child interests often leads to their opposition to the interests of the state family institute, arousing roughly polemics in the society and inadequate estimation of juvenile justice in a whole.
