Talgat Tadjuddin: “All-Russian dress-code is the norm of security but not of morality”

The chairman of the Central Clerical Muslim Dept of Russia, the Supreme Mufti Talgat Tadjuddin called the dress-code, offered by the Russian Orthodox Church, the norm of security.

In his opinion introduction of the standard all-Russian requirements to clothes both in the open air and in public places quite necessary not so much from considerations of morality but in order to make the life of our women safer.

“Those parts of body, which should be covered, have to be covered” – he said – “It isn’t worth provoking men to illegal actions, moreover there are plenty of guest workers in the country, who don’t see their wives for many months”.

Talgat Tadjuddin is certain the initiative to announce a certain dress-code, offered by the Moscow priest Vsevolod Chaplin, will be supported by all clerical leaders of the country irrespective of what religion they present.

In his opinion the dress-code doesn’t presume establishment of a certain overcoat model but just dictates the decorum. Such rules existed in our country for many years – in pre-revolutionary Russia and in the course of the whole Soviet era. The school uniform can be regarded as the best example, so introduction of the dress-code should start at the education institutions first, the Supreme Mufti believes.
