The leader of “Islamic Jamaat” is sentenced to life imprisonment

The Supreme Court of Bashkiria pronounced sentences on four terrorists. The natives of Tatarstan Daniel Gabdulkhakov, Vener Khazetdinov (both are 27-year-old now) and their wives – 26-year-old Chulpan Suleimanova and 30-year-old Alfinaz Kharisova were the members of the secret armed group “Islamic Jamaat”. The group was established in Tatarstan for organization of acts of terror and other methods of struggle with “faithless”. In 2004 18 members of the group have been arrested. Gabdulkhakov, Khazetdinov, Kharisova and Suleimanova escaped and were put on the international wanted list. During three years they were hiding in Perm and Chelyabinsk regions and in Beloretsky region of Bashkiria. The men bought hunting rifles and took automatic guns and ammunition out from the hiding places, prepared by “Jamaat” still in 2003. They also stole horses. In September 2007 the four tried to leave for the neighboring state astride. The police tried to arrest them on the territory of Sterlitamacsky region but terrorists started to fire back and killed two policemen and one civil servant. They were arrested on the territory of Orenburg region and at that one more policeman was wounded.
Daniel Gabdulkhakov, who is considered the leader of the group, is sentenced to life imprisonment and Vener Khazetdinov received 23 years. The women were sentenced to three years and four months of imprisonment and in connection with the actual completion of the sentence they were released from custody in the court’s hall.
