Orthodox Christians celebrate Epiphany

Orthodox Christians of the country celebrate Epiphany today and this holiday is considered one of the most ancient in Christianity. Originally it was called Epiphania – phenomenon, or Teophania – the appearance of the God. The history of the holiday is concerned with the legend about christening of Jesus Christ by Johann the Christener in the river of Jordan, which can be found in all four Gospels.
The second name of the holiday – Epiphany is explained by the fact that on that day the God had shown himself before the world in three persons: The Godson - Jesus Christ - took the christening in Jordan, the Holy Spirit condescended to him as a pigeon and the Godfather witnessed Jesus Christ by the voice from heaven.
