George Shebaev comments the decision of the court concerning supplying children with Hunter’s syndrome in Bashkiria with medicines

The Kirovsky district court of Ufa has answered to the claim of the Republican Office of Public Prosecutor to the Government RB and the Ministry of health protection RB last week, obliging them to provide all children, suffering from the Hunter’s syndrome in the region, with the expensive medicine. It should be noted that the district court and the Supreme Court have refused the parents of the children with the Hunter’s syndrome of the free medical provision before and only for third time this problem is solved positively.

“Unfortunately the problem with the medical provision of the patients, suffering from the Hunter’s syndrome, isn’t yet solved either at the federal or Republican level” – the acting Minister of health protection RB George Shebaev comments the situation – “And in many respects it can be explained by the fact the only medicine, which, as it is presupposed, is able to help such people, was registered in Russia only in 2008 and the complete international randomized medical investigations, which would have been able to prove the efficiency of this preparation, are simply absent”.

“The Government of Bashkiria and the Republican Ministry of health protection can’t be blamed of inactivity” – George Shebaev stated – “The children were sent to the Moscow Scientific-Research Institute of pediatrics and infant surgery for further investigations. These kids are found under permanent dispensary observation at the Children’s Center of psychoneurology and epileptology in accordance with the program of medical aid state guarantees”.

“Quite reasonable question arises: who is stirring this situation up? The medical treatment of one kid in the USA costs 12 million rubles per year in currency conversion and already about 30 million rubles in Russia. Is the transportation of the box with this medicine across the ocean is so expensive? It seems this question has to be investigated by the competent law-enforcement bodies” – the acting Minister stated – “Russian health protection is considered far from the richest and it happens so that about 120 million rubles have to be spent for treatment of four kids. In Bashkiria we spend the same sum, providing about 17,5 thousand patients with medicines during the whole year. It seems that somebody tries to make a profit out of the terrible disaster of these families, forcing the state to spend huge sums for the medicine, which efficiency isn’t yet unambiguously proved, and it is done to the prejudice of health of many thousand citizens of the Republic”.
