Deputies of the State Council RB decided to protect Bashkir “Stonehenge”

The deputies of the State Council-Kurultay-RB decided to take the situation, concerned with the destruction of the elements of the unique archeological monument near the village AKHUMOVO in Utchalinsky region RB under their control.

The news agency “Bashinform” already reported that the act of vandalism was committed there in October: the monument of ancient nature, known as the Bashkir Stonehenge seriously suffered. The vandals have destroyed five vertically standing stones (“Mengirs”) with the help of a sledge-hummer and raised the upturned cross from the crushed fragments around the main stone of the sanctuary.

The Bashkir Stonehenge is about 6500 years old. These stones stood during several millenniums and for the last years became a place for pilgrimage. People from all over Russia came to see this miracle.

For today the parliamentarians scheduled the meeting wit the leadership of the local municipal administration and intended to discuss the measures of protection for the only such monument in Utchalinsky region.
