Muslims begin the Holy Month of Ramadan

The Holy Month of Ramadan started yesterday with the sunset. The Muslims of Bashkortostan together with their coreligionists all over the world have prepared themselves to meet it. The first Muslim prayer has been read in all mosques. This prayer is read only this month.

According to the Islamic dogma Allah began sending the Koran to people with the help of his prophet Muhammad. The this month’s fast is prescribed by the Koran and considered one of five Islamic pillars together with the belief in One God, the necessity to read the Mohammedan prayer, the pilgrimage to Mecca and obligatory payments to the poor.

One of the greatest Muslim feasts – Uraza-Bayram – comes after the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the end of the fast. In Bashkortostan this day is considered an official day off.
